Benchmark Enterprise Story - Top Gear Assisting Shandong Coal Transportation Company In Building “Green Logistics”

At the recently concluded “2025 First Commercial Vehicle Network Annual Awards Ceremony and the Unveiling of the Gold Medal Spokesperson”, Gao Feng, the president of Gaolaozhuang New Energy Technology (Shandong) Co., Ltd. , was awarded the title of “Green Power Spokesperson”. Let’s follow his perspective to explore the business philosophy of a company that operates over a thousand electric heavy-duty trucks.

“Currently, our company has over 2,000 self-operated heavy trucks and more than 1,000 cooperative managed heavy trucks, among which electric heavy trucks exceed 1,000. We manage a professional driver team of over 3,000 people. In line with the current industry trend, we are also actively transforming towards new energy.”

According to Gao Feng, Gao Laozhuang New Energy (hereinafter referred to as GLZ) was established in 2024, mainly focusing on the coal trade and transportation sector. Currently, its business network covers 7 provinces and 26 cities, with an annual self-operated coal trade volume of 15 million tons and the transportation business segment’s annual revenue exceeding 6 billion yuan. Contrary to the common belief that the key to running a business lies in profit, Gao Feng believes that keeping up with the industry’s development trend is far more important than short-term profit fluctuations. Although coal trade is not a new industry and coal transportation is not a new sector, with the continuous spreading of new energy transportation tools, both coal trade and transportation have undergone some new changes. Only by following the industry’s major trends can we talk about the development of the enterprise.

In terms of logistics form, Gao Feng stated that GLZ is not limited to a single transportation mode but has built an all-industry chain ecosystem of “vehicles, charging piles, transportation, and cloud”. Adhering to the development concept of “green, innovative, efficient, and shared”, GLZ is committed to becoming a leading enterprise in the new energy field. Specifically in the transportation link, Gao Feng believes that a reliable vehicle power system is the fundamental to achieving the transformation goal. Based on the various performances of TPG powertrain in actual operation, it provides a strong guarantee for the company’s transformation to new energy transportation.

Handling Complex Scenarios With Ease, Reliable Products Boost Efficiency

The features of coal transportation include full loads, high frequency, and complex working conditions. Therefore, when choosing vehicles, adaptability to scenarios and reliability are given more importance. As the core of the vehicle, the power system of electric heavy-duty trucks must also meet the these requirements and ensure stable performance during high-intensity operations.

According to business needs, the electric heavy-duty trucks of GLZ operate 24 hours a day. The newly purchased batch of FAW Jiefang electric heavy-duty trucks started operation in April this year. In just six months, each vehicle has traveled over 70,000 kilometers. They not only have abundant power but also have an extremely low failure rate, which greatly reduces the worries of the fleet manager and drivers.

At present, the company has two main operating routes: one from Changzhi City, Shanxi Province to Wu’an city, Hebei Province, the other from Wu’an, Hebei to Chiping District, Liaocheng City. Both routes are about 200 kilometers one way. However, the first route involves crossing parts of the Taihang Mountains, making climbing slopes inevitable. The second route, although relatively flat, often encounters urban traffic congestion.

Despite these challenges, the FAW Jiefang electric heavy-duty trucks equipped with the TPG 420kw peak power motor can handle them with ease. They have excellent continuous climbing ability and can adapt well during frequent acceleration and braking. Gao Feng is also very satisfied with the performance of the Top Gear power system.

“To maximize the operational efficiency of electric heavy-duty trucks, increasing transportation frequency and ensuring vehicle availability are the key points,” Gao Feng said. After being put into operation, this batch has maintained a high availability rate, with each vehicle traveling an average of 400 to 500 kilometers per day. Even in complex transportation scenarios such as heavy-load starts, climbing slopes, and driving on unpaved roads, their power systems can handle them easily. The high reliability in actual performance has become a solid foundation for the company’s overall operational efficiency improvement.

Moreover, according to the fleet manager, thanks to the excellent quietness and power performance, the TPG power system has gained a high reputation among drivers, and their income has also increased. It can be said that it is an ideal power system for electric heavy-duty trucks that balances driving experience and operational efficiency.

High Integration And Lower Energy Consumption Set A Benchmark For Green Logistics

“Our company mainly operates light-weight standard-load vehicles, which means that for every kilogram of weight reduction, the vehicle can carry an additional kilogram of coal.” Combined with the excellent system integration of Top Gear, Gao Feng believes that this effectively increases the single-trip transportation revenue of each vehicle. If calculated based on five short-distance trips a day, with over a thousand electric heavy-duty trucks operating at full capacity, more than 5,000 tons of coal can be transported daily.

Of course, the high integration of TPG dual-motor system not only brings advantages such as compact system structure and light weight, but also its function of flexibly adopting multiple drive modes of the dual-motor system based on vehicle load conditions, road conditions, and vehicle speed, enables the vehicle to achieve the optimal drive efficiency and provides better energy consumption performance from the perspective of economy such as electricity consumption.
